THIS RESIDENCE IS AN UPDATED VERSION of a prototypical shingle style home, consisting of a centralized porch flanked by matching gambrel cross gables. While providing an overall symmetry to the composition, each cross gable contains subtle differences in the window, and trim layouts to create an energetic whole. A two-bay carriage house is part of the overall composition, providing additional breadth to the scheme.

A generous entry hall leads to a family room with an open fireplace onto a semi-circular sunroom. Opposite is a kitchen and breakfast room, with service rooms beyond. The second floor contains 4 bedroom suites organized around an upstairs ‘family room’, with a primary bedroom suite on the opposite side. The attic area is an open plan, providing additional recreation space, and additional sleeping areas. A detail of note is the mahogany and maple flooring laid to look like the deck of a vintage boat, as well as the mahogany ‘spars’ over the ceiling that are intended to look like the ribs of a ship.

Period appropriate materials and details such as cedar shingle siding, hand-split cedar shake roofing, copper gutters, leaders, stone veneer, painted wood shutters and paneling complete the composition. The deep gambrel roofing is intended to lessen the mass of the structure, while the corbels, paneling, and trim lend authenticity to the project.
