A COMPLETE RENOVATION TO a builder's spec. home in Bernardsville, New Jersey.

A developer's version of a Post-Modern residence was the starting point for this project. Rather than tearing down a 'perfectly good' structure, the client wished to renovate the existing residence to create an 'English Country' style home, suited to the horse country set in Bernardsville. While maintaining the existing building footprint, we completely re-worked the interior floor plans and developed an appropriately scaled exterior, using locally sourced materials such as fieldstone, cedar shingle and cedar shake. In order to lessen the overall mass of the home, we removed large existing gables, emphasizing the horizontality of the structure.

For the interior, we completely re-worked the layout, while introducing details such as paneling, ceiling coffers and oversized trim. Working with Jack Fhillips Design, the finishing touches provide a restrained elegance to the whole.
