A NEW STONE-CLAD CARRIAGE HOUSE, with Pergola in Essex Fells, New Jersey.
This project consisted of the development of a new stone-clad Carriage House with cross gables and barn doors to house a Garage, Gymnasium and Second Floor Apartment. Exterior material and design cues were taken from the original 1930 Main Residence.
Inspired by the shingle-style houses designed by John Calvin Stevens, a large octagonal lantern with a bell roof centers the composition, providing natural light to the second-floor living space.
A custom, painted mahogany pergola connects the main residence to the carriage house, resulting in an integrated composition of structures on the property.
